DuSable Museum Celebrates The Life of Michael Jackson

June 29, 2009

“….Like a Comet
Blazing ’Cross The Evening Sky
Gone Too Soon
Like A Rainbow
Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye
Gone Too Soon
Shiny And Sparkly
And Splendidly Bright
Here One Day
Gone One Night
Like A Castle
Built Upon A Sandy Beach
Gone Too Soon
Like A perfect Flower
That Is Just Beyond Your Reach
Gone Too Soon
Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight
Here One Day
Gone One Night
Like A Sunset
Dying With The Rising Of The Moon
Gone Too Soon”

GONE TO SOON!
……..by Michael Jackson

My heartfelt prayers go out to the entire Jackson family at this time of deep sorrow. I grew up with the Jackson Five and then The Jacksons and even into Michael’s solo career. We have truly lost one of the most talented entertainers the world has ever seen, but his music legacy will live on forever.

“Gone Too Soon” was such a poignant song for you to bring out.  That is how so many of us feel…what would Michael have created or done to improve the world through his art had he lived longer?  Now we must go back and take a second look at the legacy of lyrics and musical vibrations he has left behind…and pray for his family.

Usher sang “Gone Too Soon” at the Memorial Service for Michael.
That song and the way Usher sang it was one of the most moving and heartfelt presentations during the service.
According to several news sources, there were few dry eyes in the stadium.
Michael touched a lot of people with his music, his messages and his charity.
He will never be forgotten…never

It is difficult for me to convey how I feel. I was stunned at the death of Marvin Gaye and I was sad to see James Brown Go. Michael Jackson’s sudden departue however has left me speechless. I trully feel that he was so much more than an enter tainer. He truly was a rare gift. I have never felt so deeply about a public figure before. It was like he was a member of the family. I really have been listening to his music with new ears and I appreciate him so much. Thankyou Michael. You gave It your all.You never let them see you sweat You were always smiling, though they tried to break you. And as Jeanette said you will never be forgotten…never

We are still missing you and yes you are gone too soon. When we lose someone this special we gasp and our very breath is taken away for a long moment…we will breathe again through our strong sense of community and culture.

I have always believed that through our music, spoken word, and visual arts and dance that we will survive and each generation taught will have this survival tool that makes us happy, free, and creative in our lives. Our very survival is based on the stories we share, and the artistic talents we use to connect and learn from those who do not look like us.

I have learned from Michael Jackson and his family that love is powerful and God blesses us with a means to convey it if we embrace it. We will never forget this prodigal son.
