October 28, 2011 would have been The Queen of Gospel, Mahalia Jackson’s 100th Birthday. So make plans now to honor the “World’s Greatest Gospel Singer,” during her Centennial Birthday Weekend (October 28th through October 30th) by paying a visit to The DuSable Museum to experience our newest exhibition, “Spread The Word: The Evolution of Gospel from Chicago to the World. Mahalia is featured in the exhibition along with some of Chicago’s most famous Gospel legends including: Reverend Clay Evans, Albertina Walker, Thomas Dorsey, Reverend Marvin Yancy, The Barrett Sisters and many many more.
