Sankofa, is an Ashante word that translates to “go back and take” and the concept, “It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten.” In conjunction with the exhibition, Sixteen Pieces, and as part of The DuSable Museum’s continuing “Forgotten History Lecture Series,” Baba Songodina Ifatunji will examine concepts and beliefs such as Odu in relation to our quest for knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Ifatunji will also address the concept of the primitive brain, the conscious mind and the significance and reasons behind Divination. Ifatunji is a Yoruba priest and has been an Ifa Diviner since 1991. He is a newly retired professor from Chicago State University.
