This musical performance showcases a jazz band, professional dancers and a multi-media presentation to commemorate two African American musical pioneers: Miles Davis and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson. Consisting of two acts, the first piece is entitled “Corner Sketches: A Tribute to Miles Davis” and the second is “Just Blues”.
“Corner Sketches- A Tribute to Miles Davis” blends different periods and styles of Davis’s music to honor his major influences on American music.
Stones of Hope: “Caged Bird, Million Man March, Still I Rise” is a public and personal depiction of the Civil Rights Movement, featuring the profound and brilliant work of the legendary Maya Angelou.
Reginald R. Robinson, born and raised in Chicago, is America’s leading ragtime composer, as confirmed by his 2004 MacArthur Genius Grant for his innovation in the genre. Between recording, performing and composing, Reginald is at work on his most ambitious project, a documentary film about the history and development of ragtime music.
Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (CRDT) uniquely fuses contemporary dance, live music and visual art with programs that express the stories of American diversity, creating work both thought-provoking and accessible.
