“The First Grader”

The true story of an 84 year-old Kenyan villager and ex Mau Mau freedom fighter who fights for his right to go to school for the first time to get the education he could never afford. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790663/
Directed by Justin Chadwick (THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL/BLEAK HOUSE) from a script by Emmy-winner Ann Peacock (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, NIGHTS IN RODANTHE, KIT KITTRIDGE), THE FIRST GRADER is a heart warming and inspiring true story of one man’s fight for what he believes is his right in order to overcome the burdens of his past. It is a triumphant testimony to the transforming force of education.
SPECIAL PROGRAMMING
Join us for The DuSable Museum’s Back-To-School Rally, and let’s get our kids even more excited about the first day of the new school year! In partnership with the Washington Park Consortium, we’ll be giving away hundreds of sets of free school supplies, offer health and dental screenings, free haircuts for boys, and quick up-dos for girls, all to help ensure that students are prepared for their first day of school. Also, high school students and adults can benefit from speaking with representatives of tutoring and mentoring programs.
