Remembering Fred Anderson

This week, the Velvet Birdhouse Coalition invites the Chicagoans and friends around the world to remember the life and music of creative music pioneer and master Fred Anderson at a memorial gathering at the DuSable Museum and at a birthday celebration at the Jazz Showcase.

On Sunday afternoon, March 20, at 3PM, musicians who had played with and been inspired by Fred Anderson will gather for a musical celebration of his life. Emceed by Janis Lane-Ewart, participants include the AACM’s Great Black Music Ensemble, Josh Abrams, Ernie Adams, Dee Alexander, Tatsu Aoki, Harrison Bankhead, Mwata Bowden, Jeb Bishop, Ari Brown, Jeff Chan, Vincent Davis, Justin Dillard, Jimmy Ellis, Douglas R. Ewart, Alvin Fielder, Henry Grimes, Duriel Harris, Scott Hesse, Amy Homma, Fred Jackson Jr., Shaun Johnson, Lester Lashley, Nicole Mitchell, Dushun Mosley, Junius Paul, Willie Pickens, Avreeayl Ra, Preyas Roy, James Sanders, Isaiah Spencer, Martin Stonikas, Saalik Ziyad, and more.
