Zora’s Roots tells Zora Neale Hurston’s story through the people who knew her and the places and events that she brought to the world through her research and writing. The documentary presents the life of this extraordinary woman of letters against the backdrop of the subtropical paradise that shaped her childhood and her life. 60 minutes. The Genius of Lady Day: Billie Holiday was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. (65 minutes) Screening: March 11, 2014 – March 19, 2014
