An expression of the DuSable Museum of African American History and Kraft Educational Program Series, the ‘Sounds of Soul’ is an reflection of the merging of gospel and blues. Join Mike Dangeroux as he guides his all-star band, Soulsation, through the evolution and development of this popular American music style from its beginnings in the 1950s and ‘60s to its influences on today’s popular music. Drawing from the music of soul pioneers Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and James Brown and their effect on musicians like Curtis Mayfield and Otis Redding, this musical exploration provides a historical overview of the significant contributions of soul to American music and culture.
