“Songs For DuSable - A Musical Celebration”

The DuSable Museum of African American History will mark Chicago’s 175th birthday with a very special concert entitled, “Songs For DuSable,” featuring Douglas Ewart & Inventions! The event will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Museum which is located at 740 East 56th Place (57th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue) in Chicago.

This concert which promises to be historic and inspiring will serve as a musical tribute honoring the memory and legacy of the “Father of Chicago,” Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable and will showcase compositions dedicated to DuSable’s experiences in Eschikago (Chicago).Minneapolis-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Douglas Ewart along with his Inventions!, are among the nation’s finest musicians. This “genre defying band” includes Ewart’s fellow Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) members Ed Wilkerson, Jr. (Shadow Vignettes, 8 Bold Souls) and Mwata Bowden, the propulsive bass of Darius Savage, and the swinging rhythms of drummer Dashun Mosley. The all-star ensemble also includes singer/poet Mankwe Ndosi and poet Duriel Harris.
