DanceAfrica Chicago Changes Line Up

(Chicago, IL)— DanceAfrica Chicago 2008 has made a change to the artistic line up for this year’s performance. On Friday, October 31, 2008, at 8:00PM at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park enjoy, Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater, Giwayen Mata, Andrea Kelly Dance Theater and POETREE.

Acting as an extension of a permanent exhibition, “Africa Speaks”, which explores the motherland region by region, DanceAfrica Chicago adds a live component to its historical exploration. This year’s performance maintains the integrity of traditional West African dance, with performers from the United States.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Tatjj Drama ‘N’ Dance Ensemble a Ghanaian dance company scheduled for their first United States performance will not participate in DanceAfrica Chicago 2008.

“We were excited about bringing Tatjj to the United States and looked forward to sharing traditional dance direct from Africa. Unfortunately, they were not able to join us this year,” said President and CEO Antoinette D. Wright. We are very pleased to present “Asase Yaa, whose dancers include members of Ghanaian heritage. They will perform a traditional Ghanaian suite during Dance Africa Chicago 2008 this Friday.”
