Give the People What They Need: Good Greens Festival 2008: Eat to Live

Rep. Rush works in cooperation with community groups, institutions, and city to advocate for healthy lifestyles

CHICAGO—In too many communities, a person can purchase French fries, but not fresh potatoes or purchase catsup, but not fresh tomatoes. That’s why, on September 6, people of conscious will present GOOD GREENS FESTIVAL 2008: Eat to Live, a groundbreaking, inaugural one-day event aimed at launching a new movement to engage African Americans in the issues of food access, health, and green economy jobs in Chicago and throughout the United States.

The event will celebrate Congress passing the 2008 Farm Bill, which includes historic provisions for urban communities and highlight the vibrant cultural tradition of African Americans through good food and food for thought.

This event, sponsored by the DuSable Museum, a 501 ©(3) organization, in cooperation with Congressman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL-01) will be held at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Washington Park, located 740 E. 56th Place. GOOD GREENS FESTIVAL 2008: Eat to Live will include:
• a farmers’ market
• a taste of healthful foods
• food preparation demonstrations by nationally renowned chefs
• healthful living exhibits and free health screenings
• an exciting panel discussion by experts from across the country
• a free concert by musical artists who practice healthful eating and living.

The Good Greens in Illinois Collaboration consists of Congressman Bobby L. Rush, honorary chair, DuSable Museum of African American History, E-WALES, Illinois Institute of Technology, Real Men Cook Charities Inc., Real Men Cook, Blacks In Green, City of Chicago Department of Environment, Illinois Department of Human Services, Illinois Department of Public Health, and USDA.
